Rego check
Check any Australian number plate and see exactly what vehicle it belongs to, in about five seconds.
What a rego check tells you
A rego check starts with the one thing you can always see: the number plate. From the plate and the state, Rego Notes finds the vehicle it belongs to and returns the VIN, make, model, year, body type and transmission.
That answers a simple question fast. Is the car in the ad really the model the seller says it is? Which variant has just rolled into the workshop? Does the plate match the car in front of you?
It works for all eight states and territories. There is no account to create, and every check you run with an account is saved with room for your own notes.
Checking several vehicles? Packs from 50 checks work out cheaper per check.

FAQ
Rego check questions
- What does a rego check show?
- A Rego Notes rego check returns the vehicle details recorded against the plate: the 17-character VIN, make, model, variant, year of manufacture, body type, transmission and NVIC, where the data provider holds them.
- How much is a rego check?
- A single check is A$2.00 with no account. If you check vehicles regularly, 50 checks are A$19.50 and 100 checks are A$29.50. If a check returns no vehicle, it is refunded automatically.
- Does a rego check show if the registration is current?
- Not here. Rego Notes returns the vehicle details, not the registration status. Whether a registration is current, expired or cancelled is a free check from the transport authority in the state the vehicle is registered in.
- Does a rego check show finance owing or if a car is written off?
- No. Finance owing, written-off and stolen records come from the national PPSR, which is a separate search. Rego Notes sells that as a PPSR certificate for A$9.00, by rego or VIN.
- Does a rego check show who owns the car?
- No. Rego Notes does not provide the owner’s name, address or any other personal details.
- What do I need to run a rego check?
- The registration number exactly as it appears on the plate, and the state or territory the vehicle is registered in. The same plate can exist in more than one state, so the state matters.
