Current plates always start with the letter S, and the three characters after it are always numbers. An S typed as a 5, or a zero typed as an O in those three places, is the usual slip.

What about the VIN? Only the last 4 digits. The free Check a vehicle or boat registration service shows those, which confirms you have the right vehicle but is not the full number a parts catalogue, an insurer or a PPSR search asks for.
It does not show finance owing, written-off history or stolen records. Those come from a PPSR check.
Buying or selling
Selling or buying a car in South Australia
